Attendance Percentage Calculator

Work out your attendance, and how many classes you need or can miss.

How to calculate attendance percentage

Attendance % = classes attended ÷ classes held × 100. Attending 30 of 40 classes is 75%. Many schools, colleges and universities set a minimum, often 75%, but the rule differs, so check yours.

How many classes do I need to attend to reach 75%?

If you attend x classes in a row, your attendance becomes (attended + x) ÷ (held + x). To reach 75%, you need x ≥ (0.75 × held − attended) ÷ 0.25.

Classes to attend in a row to reach 75% (40 classes held so far)
Attended Attendance now Classes needed in a row
20 of 40 50.0% 40
24 of 40 60.0% 24
28 of 40 70.0% 8
29 of 40 72.5% 4

How many classes can I miss?

If you are above the requirement, the number of further classes you can miss is floor(attended ÷ 0.75 − held). It assumes you attend none of the next classes.

Classes you can miss and stay at 75% (40 classes held so far)
Attended Attendance now Further classes you can miss
34 of 40 85.0% 5
36 of 40 90.0% 8
38 of 40 95.0% 10

Planning a whole term

The “Plan for the term” tab works from the total number of classes in the term. With 120 classes in total, 60 held and 48 attended, you need 90 attended in all for 75%, so you must attend 42 of the 60 remaining classes and can miss 18.

Use this as a guide, and follow your institution’s official attendance record.
