Electricity Cost Calculator
Find out what an appliance costs to run.
Watts, kilowatt-hours and cost
Electricity is billed in kilowatt-hours (kWh): the power in kilowatts times the hours of use. Find an appliance’s power on its label, enter how long you use it and your price from your bill.
Example
With the starting values shown (Power 1500 watts; Hours used per day 3; Price per kWh $0.15; Days of use 30), Cost for the period comes out as $20.25. Other results include energy used per day: 4.5; cost per day: $0.67; cost per year at this use: $246.37.
Appliances such as fridges and heaters cycle on and off, so their average power is lower than the label. Standby power adds up too. Your bill may also have fixed charges, which are not included.
