Base64 Encode and Decode
Encode text as Base64 or decode it back. Nothing leaves your browser.
What Base64 is
Base64 turns data into a string made only of letters, digits, plus, slash and equals signs. It is used to move binary data through systems that expect text, such as email and web page data URLs.
Example
“Hello, world!” encodes to SGVsbG8sIHdvcmxkIQ==. Text is converted using UTF-8 first, so accented letters and emoji work correctly.
Not encryption
Base64 is only an encoding. Anyone can decode it, so never use it to hide passwords or private data. This tool works in your browser and does not send your text anywhere.
Frequently asked questions
Why does the output end in equals signs?
They are padding, added so the length is a multiple of four characters.
Can it decode URL-safe Base64?
Yes. It accepts the dash and underscore variants as well.
