Hours Calculator
Calculate hours worked between a start time and an end time.
Time between two clock times
Enter when you started and finished, and any unpaid break. The calculator turns both times into minutes after midnight, subtracts, and shows the result in hours and minutes and in decimal hours, which is what most payroll systems use.
Example
9:00 AM to 5:30 PM is 8 hours 30 minutes. With a 30-minute unpaid break, the time worked is 8 hours, or 8.00 decimal hours.
Overnight shifts
If the end time is earlier than the start, the calculator assumes the shift ran past midnight and adds 24 hours. Use hours between 1 and 12 and choose AM or PM.
Frequently asked questions
How do I convert minutes to decimal hours?
Divide the minutes by 60. For example, 45 minutes is 0.75 hours.
Does it work for multi-day spans?
No, only up to 24 hours. For longer spans use the time calculator or the age calculator for dates.
