Fuel Cost Calculator (Trip Cost)

Work out what a trip will cost in fuel.

What a trip costs in fuel

Divide the distance by your fuel economy to get the fuel needed, then multiply by the price. Use the tabs for miles and gallons or kilometres and litres, and add the number of people to split the cost.

Example

On the first tab (miles and gallons) with the starting values shown (Distance 300 miles; Fuel economy 30 mpg; Price per gallon $3.5; People sharing 1), Fuel cost comes out as $35.00. Other results include fuel needed: 10; each person pays: $35.00; cost per mile: $0.117.

Real fuel use depends on speed, load, traffic and weather, so use your own average for the best estimate. Tolls and parking are not included.
