Molarity Calculator
Work out the concentration of a solution, or how to dilute one.
Concentration in chemistry
Molarity is the number of moles of solute per litre of solution. Chemists use it to prepare solutions of a known strength. Use the molecular weight calculator to find a compound’s molar mass.
Example
On the first tab (from moles) with the starting values shown (Amount of solute 0.5 mol; Volume of solution 2 L), Molarity comes out as 0.25.
Always add concentrated acids to water, not the other way round, and follow lab safety rules. This calculator is for education and planning, and real solutions need careful measurement.
Frequently asked questions
What is a mole?
6.022 × 10²³ particles of a substance. It links mass to number of particles through the molar mass.
Why does V1 + solvent equal V2?
In a simple dilution, you add solvent to the stock until you reach the final volume. Small volume changes on mixing are ignored.
