GST Calculator (Australia and New Zealand)
Add or remove GST at 10% (Australia) or 15% (New Zealand).
Two rates, one calculation
Australia charges GST at 10% and New Zealand at 15%. The maths is the same: to add GST, multiply the price by 1.10 (or 1.15). To remove it, divide by 1.10 (or 1.15).
Example
In Australia, a $100 price becomes $110 with GST, which includes $10 of GST. In New Zealand, $100 becomes $115. Going the other way, $110 in Australia has $100 before GST, and $115 in New Zealand has $100 before GST.
A common slip
The GST in a GST-inclusive price is one eleventh of the total in Australia (not 10%), because 10% was added to the lower price. Use the Remove GST tab to avoid the mistake. Some items, such as many basic foods, are GST-free, so check the rules that apply to your sale.
Frequently asked questions
What is one eleventh?
In Australia, GST is 10% of the price before GST, so it is 1/11 of the total once added. In New Zealand the equivalent fraction is 3/23.
Do I charge GST on everything?
No. Some supplies are GST-free or input-taxed. Check the ATO or Inland Revenue website for your case.
