Add or remove sales tax for any province or territory in Canada.
How Canadian sales tax works
The federal Goods and Services Tax (GST) is 5% everywhere in Canada. On top of that, each province either has a Harmonized Sales Tax (HST), where the federal and provincial parts are combined, or its own provincial tax (PST, RST or QST), or none.
2026 combined rates
- 5%: Alberta, Northwest Territories, Nunavut, Yukon (GST only)
- 11%: Saskatchewan (5% GST + 6% PST)
- 12%: British Columbia (5% + 7% PST) and Manitoba (5% + 7% RST)
- 13%: Ontario (HST)
- 14%: Nova Scotia (HST, lowered from 15% on 1 April 2025)
- 14.975%: Quebec (5% GST + 9.975% QST)
- 15%: New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Prince Edward Island (HST)
Example
A $100 item in Ontario costs $113 with 13% HST. In Quebec it costs $114.98 with GST and QST, and in Alberta it costs $105. Going the other way, $113 in Ontario has $100 before tax.
Some goods and services are zero-rated or exempt, and special rules apply to certain items such as restaurant meals or children’s clothing in some provinces. Check the Canada Revenue Agency or your province for the specific rules.
