Investment Calculator
See how an investment could grow, after tax and inflation.
Beyond the headline return
An investment’s final number looks different once tax and inflation are taken into account. This calculator grows your starting amount and monthly contributions at the return you choose, then takes off tax on the gains and adjusts for inflation.
Example
Starting with 10,000 and adding 500 a month for 20 years at 7% grows to about 292,465 before tax. You put in 130,000, so the gains are about 162,465. After 15% tax on gains the value is about 268,095, or about 163,611 in today’s money with 2.5% inflation.
Real returns vary from year to year and can be negative. Try a lower return, and remember that fees reduce the return you actually get. This is general information, not investment advice.
Frequently asked questions
What return should I assume?
Use a cautious figure and try several. Higher assumed returns come with higher risk.
Why show the value in today's money?
Because prices rise, so a large future number buys less than it appears to.
