Budget Calculator

Add up your spending and see what is left to save.

Know where the money goes

A budget is a plan for your income. Enter your monthly income after tax and your main spending categories, and the calculator shows what is left to save and how your spending compares with the 50/30/20 guideline: 50% of income for needs, 30% for wants and 20% for saving and extra debt payments.

Example

With 4,500 of income and 3,600 of spending, 900 is left to save, a 20% savings rate. Needs are 70% of income (housing alone is 33%) and wants are 10%, so this budget is heavy on needs and light on wants.

The guideline is a starting point, not a rule. In expensive cities, housing alone can take more than 30%. Track your real spending for a month or two to make the numbers match your life.
