Pace Calculator
Find your pace and speed, or the finish time for a target pace.
What pace tells you
Pace is the time it takes to cover one unit of distance, usually minutes per kilometre or per mile. Speed is the reverse: how far you go in an hour. Runners use pace to plan races and to keep effort even.
Example
A 10 km run in 50 minutes is a pace of 5:00 per kilometre, which is about 8:03 per mile, at a speed of 12 km/h. In the other direction, a 5:00 per km pace over 10 km gives a finish time of 0:50:00.
Tips for using pace
- Start races a little slower than target pace and speed up if you feel good.
- Hills and heat slow pace, so adjust for conditions.
- Increase training gradually, and see a doctor before starting hard exercise if you have a health condition.
